Discussing MBD at GPDIS

We are excited to again this year be a participating sponsor of the Global Product Data Interoperability Summit (GPDIS), which takes place annually in Phoenix, Arizona. As a company dedicated to advancing practical access to precise 3D data for users up and down the design/engineer/manufacture continuum, we always look forward to engaging with our peers working in the field of data interoperability.

This year, I have the privilege to be a presenter at one of the conference's breakout sessions. On the topic of model-based definition (MBD), I plan to share insights gathered from the user base of our technologies. To share a bit from my abstract:

"Leading manufacturers continue to improve efficiency through expanded use of Model-Based Definition to replace drawings as the authority for part manufacturing. However, industry segments such as aerospace, which rely heavily on external manufacturing resources, are challenged by the continued dependence on traditional 2D derivatives by many key suppliers."

Building Toward MBD

In our lives as either ordinary consumers or as specialists in the fields of software or engineering, we rely on technologies that at one time seemed niche or even unnecessary. We believe that MBD is on that same trajectory of moving from conceptual to commonplace.

The latest version of our 3D Framework geometry and CAD translation kernel incorporates several new advancements aligned with this trend. These features support developers of any system that rely on the "digital thread" of 3D data that enables manufactured parts to be fully compatible with machine-based information sharing through the course of production.

Additionally, we recently announced the 6.1 release of our family of MBD/CAD Utilities. By providing a platform-neutral resource for interrogating models at the GD&T level, these tools enable users to get all the details they would garner from drawings while supporting the PMI characteristics that allow machines to access that data too.

We look forward to the chance to engage on these topics and others with our colleagues from across various industries at this year's GPDIS gathering in Phoenix.
